On September 3rd, 2026, the Polish-Swiss Symposium on Biomaterials and Biofabrication took place at the AGH University of Krakow. We hosted researchers from ETH Zürich at the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, AGH, for the symposium focused on the latest directions in tissue engineering and biofabrication.
In the experts' panel, Prof. Marcy Zenobi-Wong from ETH Zürich spoke about structured hydrogels for tissue engineering, while Prof. Elżbieta Pamuła from AGH (President of the PSB) presented her work on biomaterials for osteochondral tissue engineering. PhD researchers from both sides shared their work as well, including self-organizing hydroxyapatite granules for bone reconstruction and gellan gum-based dressings loaded with curcumin and quercetin carriers for chronic wound treatment. The visit of the Zurich team was coordinated by Dr. Marcin Kotlarz, a WIMiC graduate now working at ETH Zürich, who spoke about hydrogel-bioceramic systems for osteochondral tissue repair.
The symposium was organized by Prof. Elżbieta Pamuła and Dr. Patrycja Domalik-Pyzik from the Regenerative Biomaterials & Drug Delivery Systems AGH - Prof. Pamuła’s Research Group, together with Wydział Inżynierii Materiałowej i Ceramiki AGH / Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, Polskie Stowarzyszenie Biomateriałów | Polish Society for Biomaterials and the Polish chapter of the YSF-ESB.

Polish Society for Biomaterials (PSB) was founded in 1996 by the group of people working in the field of materials science and medicine. The aim of the PSB is to promote fundamental or applied research in biomaterials. In 2004, Polish Society for Biomaterials became officially affiliated to the European Society for Biomaterials.
